Gov. Bobby Jindal said he's not putting any limits on what lawmakers should consider when debating a repeal of the state income tax. Jindal is pushing for a phase-out of the tax on individuals and businesses, though his priority is the personal income tax. He's giving lawmakers little direction on how they should approach the discussion. The Republican governor said Thursday he doesn't want to put up any obstacles to the tax repeal, and he's not requiring the removal be offset with new taxes to keep the state from losing money.

State officials say the percentage of Louisiana public high school students who graduate in four years edged up again in 2012, reaching 72.3 percent. The record high rate was announced Thursday by Gov. Bobby Jindal during an appearance at Dutchtown High School in Geismar (GEYES' mahr). The state's rate has climbed since the mid-1990s, although the rate of increase has been better some years than others. The 2012 rate was up less than a percentage point from the 2011 rate of 71.4 percent.
