Newsboys

One of the most popular bands in Christian music for the past two decades, Newsboys is a pop/rock group that has consistently delivered some of the industry’s most exciting live shows, not to mention a slew of radio hits. Their new song, “We Believe” off their latest album Restart (September 10, 2013) is a worshipful song with powerful lyrics about believing in Christ – our only true foundation in this world.
“We Believe” follows the hit, “Live With Abandon,” a song about truly letting go, and putting everything in the hands of God. “I love the title, I love the power in the lyric,” lead singer Michael Tait says of the song. “Living with abandon is letting go, dying to yourself, letting God take control. Giving it all over.”
With Restart the band took their music to the next level, combining elements of pop, worship, and rock. “At the start of this record two years ago, we knew we’d be taking great risks, but people will be excited about this album because we’ve pushed the music and taken it further than we’ve ever taken it before,” says Michael Tait. “I have not felt this way about anything I’ve been involved in musically since Jesus Freak.”
Now led by dc Talk’s Michael Tait after former lead singer Peter Furler stepped down to focus on his family and pursue other endeavors in early 2009, Newsboys continue to play fan favorites “Shine,” “Breakfast,” “Take Me to Your Leader” and “Entertaining Angels” while also producing new music. The band’s new face was showcased in its Born Again (“We Remember,” “Born Again”) and its latest worship album God’s Not Dead.
“God’s not dead, let’s worship Him,” proclaims Tait. “We serve a living God!”
For Newsboys, breaking records and selling albums has never really been its focus. Instead, Michael Tait (lead vocals), along with his bandmates Jody Davis (guitars, vocals), Duncan Phillips (drums, percussion) and Jeff Frankenstein (keyboards) provide an exhilarating entertainment experience for music fans while sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ in an arena that teenagers, college students and even adults feel comfortable inviting their friends to.
“When Peter asked me [to be the lead singer for Newsboys], I was elated and very proud. At the same time I was thinking ‘This is a heavy, heavy mantle,’ and this isn’t my truck,” Michael told Gospel Music Channel. “Put it this way: Remember Indiana Jones, the first one with the big rolling rock? He’s going down the hill, and this big boulder is right behind him. That’s what I felt like for the first month. But now I wake up, and I’m excited. I’m like ‘Is this real?’ It’s so much fun getting to make a difference by playing shows and talking about my faith in such a blatant way.”
