Section 3:  Supplemental (Non-Vacancy Specific) Recruitment Activities Undertaken

  1. Scholarship: In association with the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters, the  Stations offer college scholarships each year to Louisiana students that are interested in pursuing careers in broadcasting.

  1. Acadia Parish Career Connections Expo, Crowley, Louisiana: February 16, 2016.  The Stations have been one of the key sponsors of this annual event since 2003.  Barry Thompson, President & General Manager of the stations and a licensee stockholder, works closely with the Chamber of Commerce that plans and puts on the Career Connections Expo.  Thompson is responsible for assisting in securing sponsors and exhibitors, as well as for publicity for the event.  The Stations promote the event on the air, and KAJN-FM broadcasts live from the event, further encouraging attendance.  The event permits students from both public and private schools to explore a variety of career options, including broadcasting, and meet the people who perform these jobs on a daily basis.  Together, businesses and schools reinforce the importance of staying in school and developing the skills needed for the job opportunities profiled at the Expo.  In addition, the Career Expo features a Reality Store, which is an exhibit area where students are able to select a home, transportation, and any additional needs for a young adult life.  The cost of food, financing, utilities, medical care, child care, and insurance are explored and explained.  Students become aware of the realities of living expenses and the link between choices they make regarding educational, vocational, and career decisions.  The Stations make available information about careers in broadcasting, including entry level opportunities.

  1. Career Fair, McNeese State University: On March 2, 2106, David Thompson, Operations Manager and a licensee stockholder, attended this Career Fair, which is open to all students and graduates of the University.  The Stations made available information about careers in broadcasting, including entry level opportunities, and received many inquiries and expressions of interest.

  1.
