2023-2024 Annual EEO Public File Report

 

 

The Purpose of this EEO Public File Report (“Report”) is to comply with Section 73.2080(c)(6) of the FCC’s EEO Rule. This report has been prepared on behalf of the Station Employment Unit that is comprised of the following station(s): KAJN-FM, Crowley, Louisiana; KAJN-CD, Lafayette, Louisiana; KAGN-CD, Crowley, Louisiana; and KFAM-CD, Lake Charles, Louisiana, and is required to be placed in the public inspection file of those stations, and posted on their websites, if they have websites.

 

The information contained in this Report covers the time period beginning February 1, 2023 – January 31, 2024 (the “Applicable Period”).

 

The FCC’s 2002 EEO Rule requires that this report contain the following information:

 

  1. A list of all full-time vacancies filled by the Station(s) comprising the Station Employment Unit during the Applicable Period;

 

  1. For each vacancy, the recruitment source(s) utilized to fill the vacancy (including, if Applicable, organizations entitled to notification pursuant to Section 73.2080(c)(1)(ii) of the EEO Rule, which should be separately identified), identified by name, address, contact person and telephone number;

 

  1. The recruitment source that referred the hire for each full-time vacancy during the Applicable Period;

 

  1. Data reflecting the total number of person interviewed for full-time vacancies During the Applicable Period and the total number of interviewees referred by Each recruitment source utilized in connection with such vacancies; and

 

  1. A list and brief description of the initiatives undertaken pursuant to Section 73.2080(c) of the FCC rules.

 

Appendices 1, 2, and 3 have been designed, in the aggregate, to provide the required Information. For purpose of the Report, a vacancy was deemed “filled” not when the offer was extended, but when the hiree accepted the job offer. A person was deemed “interviewed” whether he or she was interviewed in person or over the telephone.

Section 3: Supplemental (Non-Vacancy Specific) Recruitment Activities Undertaken

 

  1. McNeese State University Job Fair: Vice President David Thompson attended this job fair open to all students and graduates on February 23, 2022.
  2. South Louisiana Community College: Vice President David Thompson attended this job fair on March 30, 2022.
  3. Tiffany Richard, host of KAJN Talk, a locally produced program that airs Monday – Thursday from 10:00 to 10:15 p.m., met with Linda Fontenot, director, and youth from Our Community Kids Adventure Camps, a motivational program for youth in small towns and rural areas. The visitors toured the station and observed its operation, learned about different job positions and responsibilities in it, and were recorded for a segment of KAJN Talk in which the youth were able to discuss the impact of Our Community Kids Adventure Camps and their visit on their lives.  January 29, 2023.
  4. Tiffany Richard, host of KAJN Talk, met with David Owens, founder, and youth from the Gifting Grace Project, which focuses on assisting homeless youth through programs such as back to school supply drives. The visitors toured the station and observed its operation, learned about different job positions and responsibilities in it, and were recorded for a segment of KAJN Talk in which the youth were able to speak about the Gifting Grace Project and its impact on their lives. February 9, 2023.
  5. Janet Thompson, Secretary, attended the job fair at Louisiana State University Eunice, in Eunice, Louisiana, on Wednesday March 29, 2023 and spoke to students about job opportunities in broadcasting.
  6. Tiffany Richard, host of KAJN Talk, conducted an on-air interview with Marcus Dugar, CEO of the new Producer’s Academy program in Crowley, Louisiana, which educates inner city children and teens about music production and broadcasting and is supported by public service commission scholarship grants for qualifying attendees. Dugar toured the station and learned about the equipment it uses in its broadcasts. December 27, 2023.
  7. David Thompson, Vice President, hosted a job shadow and mentoring opportunity on January 24, 2024, for Pastor Jay Miller in connection with Pastor Miller’s efforts to establish a radio and television broadcast program at The Family Church in Lafayette, Louisiana and its K-12 school and youth ministry program. Pastor Miller toured the station, received instruction in the operation of equipment in the station’s control room, and received mentoring regarding staffing, producing and distributing radio and television programming.
  8. KAJN Concerts: KAJN maintains a table at concert events that it sponsors and assures that it is staffed throughout the event where KAJN personnel hand out material about job opportunities and are available to answer questions from those interested in the station and broadcasting generally and provide contact information for follow up contacts after the event. The station’s booth is promoted on-air prior to the concerts.  During the 2022-2024 reporting period, KAJN had the following booths:
