Attorneys for the state of Louisiana are trying to revive the state’s Medicaid funding cut for Planned Parenthood clinics.  Earlier this month a three-judge panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld an injunction blocking the cut.  Now, the state has asked the full court to re-hear the case.  Former Gov. Bobby Jindal’s administration moved to cut Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood following the release of stealth videos that showed Planned Parenthood officials outside Louisiana selling fetal tissue for profit.

After lagging in polls, Republican U.S. Rep. John Fleming thinks he’s found his path to the runoff in Louisiana’s U.S. Senate race, positioning himself as the grown-up among the major GOP candidates.  In his latest TV ad released statewide this week, Fleming hits the two leading Republicans in the race, U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany and Treasurer John Kennedy, as engaged in a “junior high food fight.”

Fleming, a doctor in office since 2009, suggests his GOP competitors are trading jabs and accusations while Fleming is “fighting the real enemy,” President Barack Obama and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.  Fleming’s campaign sees the attacks between Boustany and Kennedy as peeling support from both and giving Fleming an opportunity to overtake them in the Nov. 8 election to reach the December runoff.
